Throwing Maces Throwing maces are one of the two hand-launched missile types allowed in Pycrustia (the other being frameas). Throwing maces are built using 100 psi or greater (160 psi is recommended) Siloflex or an approved equivalent with a 1 inch minimum inner diameter and attaching several tennis balls to it in a specific configuration. Throwing maces must strike a valid target area head-first in order to be counted as 'good'. If the scenario calls for it, they can be gleaned, self-inspected, and re-used by any fighter authorized for missile combat. You must use a full gauntlet while launching a throwing mace. At this time, throwing maces cannot be used to block incoming blows, and cannot be used to hit an opponent without throwing it. The handle of the throwing mace is made with a 12-inch section of 100 PSI or greater Siloflex or its equivalent with minimum 1-inch inner diameter. A tennis ball is then attached to each end of the tube, and fastened in place with cord and strapping tape, in a manner similar to tennis ball arrow blunts. Then three tennis balls are securely taped together with strapping tape, and then securely fastened to one end of the tube and ball assembly. Finally, both ends of the mace are covered in duct tape or cloth tape. The markings on the tube must remain visible for the purpose of inspection. You are also required to have your SCA name, kingdom, and year/month of construction written on the mace. Computer-printed return address labels work well for this, but be sure to cover the label with a wrap of clear packing tape to keep it readable. |
