How to Make a Fiberglass-Shafted Arrow

The following documents have been written/compiled by David Pearcy (HL Deicyn Moel of Avacal), and are an excellent set of resources for the construction of fiberglass shafted arrows and bolts.  The interested combat archer would do well to study his pronouncements with care for creating safe and effective SCA combat arrows and bolts.

Avacal SCA Combat Arrow/Bolt Production Manual

Deicyn's APD Instruction Guidelines (internal tab with routed channel)

A few additional comments from Deicyn:

"To make arrows, I rotate the APD ~ 45' to the right or left of center for a right or left handed shooter. This rotation is enough for the APD to clear the riser. In Avacal we prefer to use APD's that have an routed channel and an internal tab. The combination of hot glue and strong fiber tape makes for a very secure bond."

Also, if you choose to use a heavy-modified UHMW blunt on your arrows, you can use the same blunt construction techniques (but not the APD) as found in the instructions for Fellwalker-style crossbow bolts.

Another very good page on construction 'normal' UHMW blunts can be found on Lu-shan's website.
