Frameas (Thrust-and-Throw Javelins)

Frameas (thrust-and-throw javelins) are one of the two hand-launched missile types allowed in Artemisia (the other being throwing maces). Frameas  are built using  two layers of 160 psi Siloflex or an approved equivalent.   The outer layer is made from a length of 1-inch inner diameter Siloflex, and the inner layer is made from .75-inch inner diameter Siloflex.

You should not tape the shaft, and the markings on the shaft must remain visible for the purpose of inspection.

Use strapping tape to securely fasten a 1-inch Schedule 40 PVC cap over each end.

Put a thrusting tip on one end only, with a minimum diameter of 2 inches, such that the tip has progressive give without contacting the rigid tip underneath.

The overall length must not exceed 5 feet.

You can have foam fins on the back, but they look dorkey.

You are required to have your SCA name, kingdom, and year/month of construction written on your framea.  Computer-printed return address labels work well for this, but be sure to cover the label with a wrap of clear packing tape to keep it readable.

If the scenario calls for it, they can be gleaned, self-inspected, and re-used by any fighter authorized for missile combat.

You must use a full gauntlet while throwing framea.
