On the Battlefield

Here are some things to keep in mind when you are on the battlefield in Artemisia:

  • All archers in Artemisia are 'heavy'.  They wear standard armor and should be prepared to receive blows from their opponents.

  • All combat archers must pass an authorization procedure for missile combat before they are allowed on the battlefield.

  • Archers may wear two demi-gauntlets on their hands while using their bow/crossbow. Thrown weapons require the use of a full gauntlet.

  • Crossbow prods should be tethered (i.e., have a tie running from tip to tip) with a rawhide or other equivalent cord, or covered with a minimum of chap weight (4 oz) leather.

  • There is no minimum distance for launching an arrow at your enemies, except that the arrow/bolt must clear the bow/crossbow.

  • Archer who wish to switch to a backup weapon must first remove their bow/crossbow from the field (or hand it to another combatant) and then don adequate hand protection for their backup weapon.

  • Archers may choose to yield rather than be struck, but should be prepared to receive a blow nonetheless.
  • Missile weapons should not be launched at the backs of opposing fighters.  Archers may not perform a Kill From Behind.
